By the time we landed in Saskatoon everyone was sick of being on the move and were at each others throats. Thankfully Grandma and Grandpa Nicholetts were there to welcome us home with a smile and to take us out for an early supper, thanks again G & G! The boys stayed awake for the whole drive to Rosetown...somehow...and once we let them out of the truck at home they headed straight for their sandbox. To say they were thrilled to be home would be an understatement. Now that we've tackled a long trip like that once, we'll be better prepared for the next one. We plan to perhaps drive next time, taking more time to see the sights and show the boys the beauty of Ontario.
As soon as we arrived we met with Auntie Joyce and once we collected all of our gear (and packed it in the car(s) - Thanks again Auntie Joyce!) we headed over the visit with Great Grandma Nicholetts. The boys took to Grandma and Auntie Joyce instantly and the hugs began. Grandma is still just as cuddly as she was when I was a kid. Grandma gave both of the boys a Cabbage Patch doll which they both thought was pretty cool. Auntie Joyce gave them some coloring books and chocolates that they had to have immediately, of course. They both spent a little time with Grandma checking out the view out her window and chatting about our trip. Jesson came to the realization that he now has "3 Grandma's" which he thinks is awesome! We visited with Great Grandma every day we were there and look forward to visiting again some day soon.
Auntie Joyce went out of her way to make sure we had fun on our trip. She had us over to the appartment for supper one night to make sure we had a chance to visit with uncle Norman and Christopher too and the meal was excellent. She showed us the Sleeping Giant, took us to Mission Island to see the deer that feed there daily, took us to "camp", their beautiful cabin near Thunder Bay where we spent an afternoon visiting, and organized a dinner out with Great Grandma at Swiss Chalet which was quite a treat for her and for us. Thank You for all the trouble you went to Auntie Joyce. One afternoon Scott and I and the boys took a very quick tour of Kakabeka falls, about 30 minutes out of Thunder bay. Conor slept through it but Jesson thought it was pretty neat.
The boys' first flight was from Saskatoon to Winnipeg. It left at 6:00 a.m. so we dragged them out of bed at 3:30 a.m. which should explain the Jammie's. both of them were well behaved and took it all in. They spent most of the first flight looking out the window or watching TV. They both enjoyed the thrust of take-off and all the noise involved in landing. Both of them chewed a lot of gum and even though Conor was recovering from an ear infection, neither of them seemed to be bothered much by the changes in pressure. Once we were in Winnipeg the 5 hour layover and struggle to nap began. Mommy won and they both slept double-decker-style in the stroller while I walked the terminal. On our second flight from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay, they both visited the pilot prior to take-off. Jesson asked if he could fly, Conor just wanted to push all the buttons. Aside from the lack of sleep and lengthy layover the journey wasn't too terribly bad.
Decorating eggs for Easter is always fun, even more so this year as Conor could get into the fun too. And believe it or not, none of them broke! The finished product was beautiful!
The Easter Bunny was over-indulgent this year, the result of gift shopping under the influence of sleep deprivation. The boys (Jesson)had fun hunting for eggs. Conor had his cheeks packed full of jelly beans before the hunt even started and could have cared less that there were eggs laying around. It's always fun to see the surprised looks on their faces.
For Easter Pat & DeAnn made the lengthy trek to our house again thanks guys for driving! If you look REALLY closely you can see Grandma McNally peeking around Scott in the center picture. She was with us the whole weekend but that's the only photo we caught her in. We had a great visit with everyone and love having company. The boys are still talking about it.
On the weekend before Easter, Grandma and Grandpa Nicholetts invited us to the city for a visit in their hotel room. The boys had a blast in the pool and enjoyed the attention only grandparents can give. They went so hard they fell asleep in the truck on the way home, which rarely happens to both of them at once. Thanks for the visit G & G!!
