My Big Boy! Jesson is oh so independent it's sometimes hard to remember that he's only 3. He likes to make his own toast in the morning and takes pride in setting the table with the proper plates and utensils for each person at supper time. It's fun to see how he's learning to bridle his excitement when there are structured activities to take part in. For example we attended a reading hour at the library and he ACTUALLY sat nicely and listened to the stories without too many reminders. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago that he'd have had too many more important things to explore to sit still for something as boring as a book. Being in Playschool has really helped his ability to focus and entertain himself as well. Quite often when I can't hear him I find him in the living room with a pile of books quietly reciting the words to stories we've read a million times. If he notices me, he'll say "See Mom, aren't I reading nic-ely?" He really enjoys playing with kids his age and had a blast today at a Halloween party hosted by his friend Erika. Erika's Mom C.C. packed a tonne of fun into a couple of hours and went to a lot of trouble to make sure the kids had fun. They made crafts, played games, ate snacks and danced. After all of the excitement, Jesson slept for 3 hours this afternoon! He's an assertive little man, often to the point of bossy, and isn't particular about who he aims his attitude towards. He's constantly bossing his brother around and reminds us regularly "When I grow up, then I will be the Boss!". Although he's straight forward when he speaks he has a sense of what's fair and his feelings are hurt if situations, especially between he and his brother, aren't handled equally. His toys are his own and if Conor happens to take "the toy" with while Jesson is parked in a time out there are tears shed every time. Jesson has a loving personality too the peeks out from behind the bossy persona every once in a while to sing his brother a song when he cries or read him a book. He's quite a character and comes up with several statements every day that either leave me in stitches or at least break the stern look I'm attempting to hold. I should really be writing these things down! He's a energetic, loving little boy and we wouldn't trade him for the world.
Conor spends most of his day, it seems, sitting in his high chair because he's always hungry. He's growing like crazy and picking up speed. His vocabulary is just starting although it's really only understood by Mom & Dad so far. Most things are a "DAT!" with a pudgy finger pointed at them. He uses "words" for - all done, tractor, banana, drink, juice, puppy, and others I can't think of - and says "cat" very clearly as poor old Vera is still a victim of abuse whenever she ventures out of her little cave. Conor isn't a picky eater (as anyone can tell from the size of him) and he's still a very happy kid. His newest thing is giving kisses. He runs across the room with his mouth wide open smiling and, if you're not watching, will take off your nose with a head-butt. He loves to be outside and spent an hour out walking with Daddy and Jasper today then told me the whole story in his own words when he came in from the cold. He's a precious little boy who's tough as nails with a heart of gold like his Daddy.
